Webnet Barrier Systems Recognised Across the 2026 State Architecture Awards

It’s a strong year for Tensile’s Webnet stainless steel wire rope mesh, with barrier installations featuring in eight award-winning projects across the NSW, Victorian and Queensland architecture awards. From public infrastructure to heritage-listed landscapes, the results reflect the versatility of wire rope mesh as a barrier solution — engineered to disappear into the design intent of the architect while quietly doing the structural work required of it.

New South Wales

The New South Wales Architecture Awards delivered a clean sweep for one project in particular. New Sydney Fish Market, designed by 3XN in association with BVN and Aspect Studios, took out the Sir Arthur G Stephenson Award for Commercial Architecture, was named winner of Public Architecture, and went on to claim the Premier’s Prize — the top honor across the entire program.

Elsewhere in NSW:

Victoria

In Victoria, Balam Balam Place by Kennedy Nolan, Finding Infinity and Openwork had an outstanding night, winning across three categories: Public Architecture, Heritage Architecture, and Urban Design. Webnet mesh barriers were part of the project’s response to public safety requirements without compromising the sensitivity of the heritage and landscape context.

Queensland

In Queensland, Suncoast Christian College Primary Precinct by M3 Architecture won the Jennifer Taylor Award for Educational Architecture, with Webnet mesh used as a barrier solution within the education setting.

A common thread

Across ten award categories and three states, the brief for Tensile’s role stayed consistent: provide a barrier system robust enough to meet structural and safety requirements, and unobtrusive enough to support — rather than compete with — the architectural vision. Whether the context is a heritage landscape, a train station car park, or a landmark public building, Webnet’s stainless steel wire rope mesh adapts to aperture and wire diameter requirements specific to each site.

Congratulations to all the design teams recognised this year. If you’re planning a project that needs a barrier system engineered around your design intent rather than the other way around, get in touch with Tensile.
