Wentworth Falls Lake

NSW

The new walkway around Wentworth Falls Lake has been designed to provide safe, accessible pathways and a closer connection to the surrounding landscape. Developed by Oculus landscape architects for Blue Mountains City Council, the project incorporates robust and low-maintenance materials chosen for both longevity and sensitivity to the site’s natural character.

Tensile supplied and installed Jakob’s stainless steel Webnet mesh as the balustrade barrier along the walkway. With its 40mm aperture and 2mm wire, Webnet provides a highly transparent, permeable enclosure that preserves uninterrupted views across the lake while ensuring safety for all users. Its lightweight filigree appearance allows the barrier to recede visually into the setting, supporting Oculus’s design intent for a walkway that feels open and connected to nature.

Beyond aesthetics, Webnet’s strength and durability ensure compliance with Australian standards for public safety barriers. Manufactured from marine-grade 316 stainless steel with over 70% recycled content, the mesh offers a service life of 50+ years with minimal maintenance — making it a sustainable and cost-effective solution for community infrastructure.

The result is a functional yet refined public asset: a walkway that will serve the community for decades, blending safety and durability with a light design touch that enhances the experience of the lake.
